- ➤ Midland will host the Tall City Memorial Stair Climb & Benefit Concert on Sept. 6 to honor the 9/11 first responders. Participants will climb 110 floors at Astound Broadband Stadium at 7:00 a.m. & enjoy a country concert featuring Randy Rogers & Wade Bowen at Downtown Centennial Park to support local first responders. - ➤ A semi-truck hauling boxed bulk shipping materials caught fire near mile marker 132 on I-20 at S. Midland Drive — with crews diverting eastbound traffic and no injuries reported. CBS7
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Midland police charged convicted felon Jamie Wayne Dotson with a federal firearms offense after stopping him on August 30 for running a stop sign—he pulled into a motel parking lot where officers found his Jeep with a loaded Taurus G2C 9mm handgun, two loaded magazines, a box of ammunition, and a blood alcohol level above the legal limit—and Dotson admitted he kept the gun for protection. - ➤ Midland Crime Stoppers is asking for help finding 32-year-old Guillermo Moreno-Dominguez who is accused of assaulting a pregnant woman and breaking a 61-day emergency protective order—tips may earn up to $500 if he is arrested by Sept. 7. CBS7
- ➤ A Midland man, Deandre Benjamin Mitchell, stole more than $12,000 in rims and tires from a local salvage yard on July 18—police charged him with felony theft on July 30 after using surveillance from Recycle Midland to track and recover the items. CBS7
- ➤ Midland police and Midland Crime Stoppers asked the public for help with a 2022 cold case—officers found a fully clothed skeleton on a mattress behind a business at 508 S. Main St. on March 23 and offered a $2,500 reward for tips. CBS7
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Multiple downtown streets in Midland will be closed early next week due to a special event and utility work. Texas Avenue and Wall Street will be closed from Sept. 5 to 7 while Illinois Avenue is closed today through Sept. 12 for a new gas line installation — drivers are urged to plan their routes accordingly.
