ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Midland’s T-Bar Ranch water source has been polluted by oilfield leaks since 2003 after Heritage Standard (Dallas-based firm) allowed produced water to seep into the aquifer. The city began cleaning the water in 2007, but cleanup is still ongoing after the company filed bankruptcy in 2010.  KSAT
  • Oncor is preparing for a winter storm that will bring freezing temperatures, snow, and icy conditions across west Texas from Friday afternoon through Sunday evening. The utility has staged crews in key areas and stocked inventory to quickly respond to outages.  CBS7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Beal Park Pond will be closed from Jan. 26 to Feb. 6 for construction while the CJ Kelly Pond remains open; city officials advise residents with questions to contact Parks Superintendent David Sanchez ([email protected]).  City of Midland
  • Midland County officials are preparing for potential winter weather impacts with snow, ice and below-freezing temperatures. The Emergency Management office (working with the National Weather Service and coordinating warming shelters and generators) urges residents to check on vulnerable neighbors and take precautions.  CBS7

HEALTH NEWS

  • Midland Health Department administered over 2,200 vaccines from October through December (with a flu clinic on Dec. 4) and held outreach events reaching thousands while also completing 329 inspections.  City of Midland
