ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ According to the Texas Workforce Commission, Midland’s civilian labor force grew 1.9% in December to 106,400 (up from 104,400 last December) while the unemployment rate held near 2.9%. This growth tops West Texas cities and exceeds the state average. City of Midland
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Midland College has named Luis D. Sánchez as the new director of its Cogdell Learning Center in south Midland. He will lead the center and plan new classes to boost enrollment for adult learners—efforts that will strengthen ties between the college and community. CBS7
- ➤ Midland ISD has partnered with Baylor College of Medicine to offer a week-long summer program for rising seniors interested in medicine. The no-cost BCM Doc-Prep Program will let selected 11th graders explore medical careers at Baylor in Houston, with applications due by Feb. 27. CBS7

- ➤ The Midland-Odessa Urban Transit District reported that fixed-route riders in Midland reached 10,257 in December, a 2.6% increase and nearly 15% higher than riders in Odessa. The city continues to fund EZ-Rider services. City of Midland
