  • City officials report that the fiscal year’s sales tax collection is ahead of record pace — a sign that revenue is growing faster than expected and could support upcoming projects.  City of Midland
  • Texas has added fewer new residents overall, but urban areas like Midland and Odessa still welcome more people. Four counties, including Kaufman County which added over 50,000 residents and grew by 6% since 2020, are among the fastest-growing in the country — driving much of this change.  KSAT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students in grades 5 through 12 attend the 19th annual Mariachi Workshop from March 13—15 where over 100 participants learn mariachi music with expert instructors and practice eight to nine songs for a community performance on Saturday.  CBS7

  • City workers say a repaired water line valve still holds and they continue testing Midland's water supply to keep it safe. The city asked residents and businesses to stop watering outdoors—helping conserve water as repairs and upgrades continue.  City of Midland
  • Attorney General Ken Paxton has challenged the NRC plan to build an above-ground nuclear waste facility in Andrews because he says it breaks federal law and may hurt the local environment and economy—local groups fear that weekly rail shipments for 40 years could shut down nearby areas including Midland. The Supreme Court will decide on the case in late June.  CBS7
