Good morning, Midland.

Midland College has been awarded a $100,000 grant from Texas Mutual Insurance Company to support its Risk Management Institute, which offers workplace safety courses to over 1,700 local students and employers—helping them gain essential skills such as basic life support and first aid. The funding, granted for 21 consecutive years, may let the institute expand its offerings to new areas in the future.

Odessa College is planning to ask voters to approve a $325 million bond called Vision 2030—funding new projects—in the May 3 election.

If passed, the bond will help the college expand and support its future growth.

The Midland County Commissioners’ Court agreed on Tuesday to install No Parking signs along County Road 120 between South County Road 1232 and 1210 to stop semi-trucks and food trucks from blocking driveways—Judge Terry Johnson said violators may face fines or have trucks impounded.

On Tuesday, the Texas Senate passed a bill that would require voters to show proof of citizenship when registering, and those without proof will be allowed to vote only in congressional elections—voters who have already verified their status are not affected.

The bill now goes to the Texas House for consideration and is modeled after a similar system in Arizona that has led to legal challenges.
