- ➤ Angie’s Babies is a program that gives dolls to Alzheimer’s patients in West Texas to help them feel loved. The program (started in 2018 by two women who lost loved ones) has given nearly 7,000 dolls and will soon expand to hospitals and home health care in time for Mother’s Day. CBS7
- ➤ On Good Friday, while many spent the day in quiet prayer, one Midland community group worked in a garden to honor the day. They used planting as a way to share hope and build bonds for future generations. NewsWest9
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Two teenagers were arrested for murder after a drive-by shooting on October 19th that killed a 22-year-old Midland woman on Howard Drive, and detectives later located a black 2017 Chevrolet 3500 parked at Airline Mobile Home Park, detaining suspects Ivan Galindo (18) and Joe-Daniel Gutierrez (17) after executing a search warrant. - ➤ Midland Police took 18 year old Daniel Velasquez into custody on Oct. 31, 2024 after officers issued search and arrest warrants at a residence in the 3600 block of South County Road 1230+he was found covered in sewage+in connection with the drive by shooting of a 22 year old woman on Oct. 19. - ➤ Midland Police arrested 29-year-old Randy Lee Gutierrez on Jan. 28 after he stole a white 2020 Ford pickup truck and led officers on a chase that began in downtown and ended at Midland International Air & Space Port when he fled on foot and was caught. City of Midland
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On April 16, Rep. Brooks Landgraf voted for House Bill 3 that created an Education Savings Account—capping at $1 billion—to help about 75,000 students including those from low-income and special needs backgrounds while keeping public education funded. He said the strict accountability measures and income limits will make sure the program works fairly without harming traditional schools. CBS7

- ➤ Midland County urges residents to prepare for severe weather as tornado risks may rise this season—experts note that a tornado nearly one year ago damaged mobile homes, RVs, the airport and oil rigs with winds over 115 mph. NewsWest9
- ➤ After the discovery of over 70 dogs in south Midland earlier this month, the Midland County Commissioners Court is exploring options to build a new animal facility. Officials say the county is checking if a county-owned law enforcement building or a new jail site—where inmates might help care for animals—can ease the shelter overflow while planning to hire a new animal officer next year.
