ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ After a crash knocked down a signal pole at Midkiff and Haynes on May 2 at 11:30 p.m., temporary stop signs were posted at 2:00 a.m. and a light was installed the next morning—Midland officials are now working with Oncor to safely de-energize nearby power lines and install a permanent signal. - ➤ On Friday, May 2 at 11:30 p.m., a driver under the influence struck a signal pole at Midkiff Road and Haynes Drive and was apprehended by the Fire Department—temporary stop signs and a signal were installed that night and this morning, and the city is coordinating with Oncor to de-energize the overhead line for a permanent repair. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Angel Alvarado and Carlos Diaz pleaded guilty to killing Raul Ortega, who was beaten behind a Midland Stripes on Oct. 9, and received prison sentences of 35 years and 25 years respectively—police said they used witness tips and video footage to solve the case. NewsWest9
- ➤ Authorities arrested two men in Midland County for a Saturday shooting—officials said an investigation showed the shooting was accidental. NewsWest9

- ➤ Midland County voters rejected a $645-million bond for the Midland County Utility District in May, with 76 percent of the 1,367 voters opposing the measure.
