Residents in Iraan expressed alarm after a routine traffic stop turned violent Tuesday at Sixth and Farr Streets when a driver opened fire on a deputy who was later airlifted to Midland Memorial Hospital while deputies pursued and fatally shot the suspect on Highway 190—residents said such violence is unusual in their close-knit community.

On May 7, the Bond Advisory Committee previewed materials for the new Midland and Legacy High Schools—samples were shown to ensure durability and easy cleaning for campuses built to hold 3800 to 4200 students.

The schools, each measuring 665 thousand square feet and costing over $420 million, will feature unique design identities.

The comptroller said Midland set a record for collecting sales tax this fiscal year—pushing revenue above budget targets.
