  • The Non-profit Management Center in Midland has opened Beacon Awards nominations for nonprofits and volunteers across the Permian Basin for this fall—nominations will close on May 30 and each winner will receive a $1,000 grant.  CBS7

  • The Midland Police Department was evacuated due to a gas leak in a nearby alley—police say operations remain fully active to serve the public.  CBS7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Midland ISD graduates received job-ready certifications through a special partnership that prepared them for local careers—boosting opportunities right here in West Texas.  NewsWest9
  • ECISD Superintendent Keeley Boyer presented checks to teachers at five schools as part of the Teacher Incentive Allotment—a program created by the Texas Legislature.  NewsWest9

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Midland Health Department confirmed the fifth measles case in Midland County today — officials are investigating possible exposure and advising residents to get vaccinated. Health authorities will update the public when more details become available.  City of Midland
  • Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. will host a blood drive on May 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Bloodmobile at 3500 W. Golf Course Road. Donors will be eligible to win a trip to Universe Theme Park—airfare, hotel, theme park tickets, and a $2,500 prepaid electronic gift card—with winners announced on June 5.  CBS7
