  • During Teacher Appreciation Week at Yarbrough Elementary in Midland, principal Jill Arthur is retiring after 50 years in education—she spent 20 years as a teacher and 10 years as principal while helping create the school and build community ties. Although she is stepping down, she will stay involved with the school district to continue supporting local students and educators.  CBS7

  • Media leaders and community advocates at Basin PBS said that public media is essential for rural areas facing federal funding cuts— they warned that the cuts could harm access to important local news.  NewsWest9

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Midland Health Department warned that this season’s first West Texas heat wave can cause five serious heat illnesses such as heat rash, sunburn, heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke. John Floyd said residents should drink water, wear light clothing and sunscreen and get help fast if signs of heat stroke appear—like a body temperature above 103°F.  CBS7
