  • A Midland officer was seriously injured on May 29 at 10:54 p.m. on West Wall Street when 24-year-old Cody Justin Garcia drove across multiple lanes and struck the officer and his marked patrol unit—Garcia now faces charges of intoxication assault causing serious bodily injuries, possession of a controlled substance and unlawfully carrying a weapon.  CBS7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students and teachers in Midland are preparing for the world’s largest International Rocket Engineering Competition this summer—featuring over 170 teams from 22 countries and more than 7,000 students—where they will showcase innovative rocket designs and precision launches. Texas Tech’s Raider Aerospace began designing their rocket last fall and will launch a smaller version than last year, keeping the competition a close and exciting test of skills.  CBS7

  • Hundreds of West Texans attended the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders 2025 tour last night at Wagner Noel Arts Center in Midland where local Odessa native Julissa Garcia performed and auditioned with her team—her family cheered as she fulfilled her long-held dream. Three local dancers were chosen at the Midland audition and will advance to the finals in Frisco while the tour concludes today in El Paso.  CBS7
