  • Zoo Midland will open its doors in 2028 on a 52-acre site on the west side of Midland—officials say they will handle community concerns over odor, traffic, and animal comfort in West Texas by scheduling routine cleanings, choosing animals that perform well in the heat, and designing parking and access roads to keep traffic away from nearby areas.  CBS7
  • A Midland pastor and his family have extended their stay in Jerusalem after escalating conflict between Israel and Iran forced them to take shelter in a reinforced hotel during a planned spiritual journey that began on June 3.   • Midland Crime Stoppers say a man burglarized an RV on May 19 near North County Rd 1130 by stealing three cowboy hats valued at $1,500, two pairs of Tecovas boots worth $2,000, plus other items, and officers responded on May 23 while offering a $1,000 reward for tips.  CBS7
  • Jonathan Allen Stamper of Stampede Lift Solutions was arrested on June 9 in Lea County on charges of pumpjack theft that cost companies over $800,000 and forced one business to close—investigators recovered nine of eleven stolen units including some delivered to Tim Snelson’s Pumping Unit in Midland.  CBS7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Midland Fire Department reported an 8.8% rise in EMS calls through May 2025, with 7,134 EMS calls recorded from January to May in contrast to 287 fire calls. The department serves Midland and the surrounding county—its data show EMS calls significantly exceeding fire calls.  City of Midland
  • The Midland Texas Fire Department announced that a furry team member was adopted. Fireman Charles Bullock, who has served the station for two months, found a forever family.  CBS7
