Good morning, Midland.

Midland ISD broke ground this morning on the new Legacy High School at Avalon Drive with students, staff, and developers gathered in a pep rally, and the school is set to open in fall.

The district will hold a second groundbreaking ceremony tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. at the former Richland Hills site.

Midland ISD broke ground on Legacy High School as part of a $420 million project funded by the 2023 bond—this milestone marks the start of a new era for the district.

The Midland ISD Board of Trustees approved the 2025 to 2026 budget that shows a $7.89 million deficit and allows for a deficit of up to 4% as the district faces continued funding challenges and the end of the Formula Transition Grant.

The plan includes targeted salary increases for eligible teachers and a 2% raise for many staff—actions aimed at keeping quality classroom instruction.

Governor Abbott vetoed a bill that would ban all THC products, and a Permian Basin shop said the decision protects jobs and ensures access to products.

The move offers relief to West Texas business owners and keeps local business operations stable.
