  • Alejandro Muro was arrested in connection with a gang-related assault on N. Weatherford Street that injured multiple people earlier in May, and warrants have been issued for two others (Donovan Levario, Aiden Navarrete) as the investigation continues.  CBS7

  • The Ellen Noël Art Museum is hosting a raffle to support its new building that will open later this year — tickets cost $20 each or six for $100 and the prize is a Louis Vuitton tote valued at $2,400; the drawing will occur on Aug 14.  CBS7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Texas public school students will soon be required to keep their personal devices out of sight during the school day starting Sept. 1 due to a new state law signed by Gov. Greg Abbott on June 20—local districts will set their own rules with exemptions for medical or special needs. Some Midland parents are split on the change, citing concerns over emergency communication while officials say the ban will reduce classroom distractions.  NewsWest9
  • UTPB is using virtual reality and artificial intelligence to help special needs students practice daily tasks and build confidence while giving teachers hands-on training for classroom challenges.
