  • Officers gathered at Texas Roadhouse locations statewide on Thursday for the 'Tip A Cop' fundraiser (supporting Special Olympics Texas) as families dined and met local officers. CRIME NEWS

  • Paul Lujan, a former ranking member of the Texas Mexican Mafia and 42 year old from Odessa, was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for six counts of possession with intent to distribute cocaine after a DEA-controlled operation led Midland officers to find drugs in his vehicle—local and federal agencies investigated the case.  CBS7
  • Alejandro Muro, 17, was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in Midland — authorities are still searching for two others linked to the gang dispute.  NewsWest9
  • Midland police chased Josyann Caraballo-Figueroa—32—after a domestic violence call escalated, and she now faces charges for continuous family violence, two counts of evading arrest with a vehicle, and other related offenses.  NewsWest9
  • At around 9:23 p.m. Wednesday, Midland Police responded to a hit and run in the 3600 block of Thomason Drive where a black pickup truck (possibly a Ram or Ford) struck a woman and then left the scene.  NewsWest9

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Texas Permian Basin will begin major renovations on Monday, July 28 that will close the entrance on John Ben Sheppard Parkway and Maple Avenue, parking lots near the Welcome Center and Library, and the west side entrance to the Library while altering a walking trail near the Welcome Center. The project — the first phase to create a new front entrance and improve the campus quad — will continue for 16 to 18 months with alternative access points and detour routes for campus users.  NewsWest9
