COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Births at Midland Memorial are projected to top 3,000 this year, the highest total since 2015, and local officials say this growth shows the community is expanding.  City of Midland

CRIME NEWS

  • A Midland man was arrested Tuesday, August 19 for reckless driving and possession of an improvised explosive device after deputies discovered a suspected pipe bomb in his truck near Rita Catholic Church—he did donuts in a parking lot.  CBS7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Junior League of Midland is partnering with ConocoPhillips to launch the Pink Pantry Program—providing free hygiene products to high school and middle school students in Midland ISD and Greenwood ISD this year.  NewsWest9

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Chevron donated land and $300,000 to help build a new Midland County fire station—this donation aims to cut emergency response times while officials plan final construction details. The funding will support safety upgrades and faster service during emergencies.  NewsWest9
  • In July, the Midland Fire Department responded to 1,998 calls with 334 coming from addresses outside city limits—19 fire calls, 235 EMS calls and 80 other calls—and county call totals increased 8.8% this year.  City of Midland
  • Midland city officials warned residents about scam emails that appeared to come from the city and may include suspicious links or attachments, advising residents not to click on them and to report any such messages to the police.  CBS7
