CRIME NEWS

  • The Midland Police Department is asking the public for help to identify a suspect in an aggravated robbery at the Stripes Convenience Store on Rankin Highway, where a man wearing gray shorts, a dark long-sleeved shirt, and black shoes threatened clerks with a gun at 3:17 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 24 and fled in a dark-colored Dodge Charger.  CBS7
  • A man, identified as 33-year-old Victor Nieto, was arrested after a traffic stop on East Highway 191 in Midland led officers to find 552 grams of cocaine in his pick-up truck—he faces manufacturing and delivering charges and his bond is set at $25,000.  NewsWest9
  • Midland police responded to Midland Memorial Hospital on Sunday after a gunshot victim was brought in following an argument outside Club Remy that led a man to fire a gun — the suspect, a Black man with a bald head wearing a black shirt and black shorts, is now under investigation.  CBS7

  • The Midland City Council approved a lower city property tax bill for the upcoming fiscal year+the measure will reduce taxes for local property owners.  NewsWest9
  • Midland City Council approved further renovation phases for Beal Park—plans include a new amphitheater, splash pad, and additional parking that will serve local residents.  NewsWest9
  • Midland City Council approved a nearly $40-million expansion at the Midland International Air and Spaceport to upgrade terminals and improve traveler safety. The project—set to begin in a few months and take at least 20 months—will add more security lanes and keep the old checkpoint open during construction.  CBS7

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Permian Basin will host the Special Olympics Texas Fall Classic from Oct. 2 to Oct. 4 in Midland and Odessa. More than 2,500 athletes and 5,000 spectators will join events including bocce, golf, softball, swimming and FUNdamental Sports— with local police and city officials participating in the opening ceremonies.  CBS7
