- ➤ Urban Air Adventure Park in Odessa will host its first annual Sister City Showdown on Sunday, September 28 at 6:00 p.m.—Midland Mayor Lori Blong and Odessa Mayor Cal Hendrick will race on an indoor go-kart track to raise money for Special Olympics Texas while the winning mayor takes home the trophy as a symbol of community support. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Midland ISD announced that nine students have been named National Merit Commended Students by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation— the largest count in district history— joining two National Merit Semifinalists. The students will be honored on November 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the Bowie Fine Arts Academy. CBS7
- ➤ Today, the district confirmed that six employees at South Elementary have resigned and two administrators are on leave amid abuse allegations — all eight individuals have been reported to the State Board for review. NewsWest9
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Midland International will host a TSA PreCheck enrollment event from Oct. 28 to Oct. 31 to give travelers a faster way through airport security, and AF & IDEMIA will handle on-site enrollment. This event will help smooth U.S. travel procedures for local flyers. City of Midland
- ➤ TxDOT is upgrading I-20 in two phases that started in May 2024, with the first phase improving the road from east of JBS Parkway to County Road 1300 and the second phase extending into Midland toward County Road 1250—these changes add a third lane, new interchanges, reconfigured ramps, and one-way frontage roads. The upgrades aim to ease heavy traffic and boost safety, and drivers are advised to check basin20.org for real time travel updates as the project will be complete in 2028. CBS7
- ➤ Midland County is searching for its next Library Director to manage the public libraries—applicants need a master’s degree in library science, three years of supervisory experience, must meet state requirements, and pass a DPS background check.
