  • The second-annual Chalk the Block celebration is scheduled for Oct. 18 at Centennial Park in downtown Midland, where community members will meet to showcase chalk art.  City of Midland
  • Basin PBS in Midland is hosting a costume collection from Oct. 13 to Oct. 24 and a free costume distribution on Oct. 25 from 2–5 p.m.—families are invited to donate and pick up costumes so every child can enjoy Halloween.  CBS7

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Odessa College announced that students in Seminole can enroll in college credit courses starting Tuesday, Oct. 14, as part of a flexible eight‑week Fall 2 session. The evening classes are designed for working adults + recent high school graduates and will be held in the Auxiliary Building.  CBS7
  • Noemi Perez, a cafeteria worker at De Zavala Elementary with 19 years of service, received a new HVAC system at her home—provided by the Bosworth Company and the Lennox Feel The Love Foundation to honor her dedication to students.  CBS7
  • UT Permian Basin is experiencing record fall enrollment with more than 5,600 students and high return rates, university officials said.
