- ➤ Basin PBS is collecting new and gently used Halloween costumes for area children until Oct. 24 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. — Midland Trinity is also collecting costumes, and free costumes will be given out on Oct. 25 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. NewsWest9
- ➤ The Pet and Properties Community will host a pet supply drive and Halloween celebration at Beal Park on Saturday, October 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.—guests are asked to bring blankets, pet food, pillowcases, and cleaning supplies for local shelters while enjoying pet-friendly activities and a costume contest. - ➤ CASA West Texas is celebrating 35 years of helping children who have been abused or neglected with a special event today from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Midland CASA Office—volunteers will share their stories and a former foster child will speak. CBS7

- ➤ At 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, Midland ISD trustee Matt Friez withdrew his request to dissolve the Bond Advisory Committee after community members argued the move would silence local oversight of how bond funds are spent—he apologized for the drama. NewsWest9
- ➤ Midland officials broke ground today for Wildcatters Trail, the first trail head in the city, as part of a new 19-mile route connecting Midland and Odessa that will boost safe exercise options. Officials said the ten-foot-wide trail runs from the University of Texas Permian Basin to Scharbauer Sports Complex and will open to the public next year — a project aimed at improving local cycling and outdoor activity.
