  • The West Texas Food Bank said demand for food is rising amid the federal shutdown that left many West Texans unsure of their next meal—emergency food boxes are being distributed as supplies run low and officials stress the need for donations.  CBS7
  • Watersong Wild Space is closed for maintenance today and tomorrow — its gates will reopen on October 30 to keep volunteers and visitors safe.  CBS7
  • Nonprofit Buckner International will host a Trunk or Treat Fall Festival today at the Buckner Family Hope Center on Loma Drive from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.—the event will offer food, games and decorated trunks with support from over 15 community partners, including IDEA Public Schools, Eyemart Express and the Midland County Sheriff’s Office.  CBS7
  • Capt. Michael Cain said the Salvation Army of Midland and Odessa raised its kettle donation goal by $30,000—citing rising cost of living—and is asking local donors for help meeting the new target.   • The Bush Family Home State Historic Site will host its second annual Pumpkin Walk on Oct. 29 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. where participants can carve or paint pumpkins for contests in three categories—Most Creative, Scariest, and Best Overall—and must drop off their pumpkins by 4 p.m. for eligibility; community members may also view the displays on Thursday.  CBS7

  • TxDOT launched a new pedestrian safety campaign called 'Be Smart, Drive Safe' this October to remind drivers to slow down and watch for pedestrians as darkness increases. Officials noted that 67% of serious pedestrian crashes occur at night—extra caution is needed with Halloween nearing.  CBS7
