- ➤ Nonprofits including the Midland Soup Kitchen and West Texas Food Bank are struggling as the government shutdown continues into its fourth week, with the soup kitchen serving 164 people on Monday, 14% of whom were first-time visitors. Libby Stephens warned that resources are low while 4,808 government workers and 135,000 SNAP beneficiaries need assistance—donations and volunteers are now being welcomed. CBS7
- ➤ The Salvation Army in Midland has raised its Red Kettle Campaign goal to $250,000 due to rising living costs that have increased the number of people needing help. Fundraising begins November 15th — donations will support essential programs such as meals and utility assistance — as the community works together to assist local families. CBS7
- ➤ The Junior League of Midland launched its Stork Supply program to collect baby supplies as food banks limit diaper distributions to 12 per family—helping local donors support West Texans during the government shutdown.
