  • The city will host its first Veterans Day parade on November 8 at 2 p.m. with a cookout scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. to honor local veterans.  City of Midland
  • H-E-B and Senior Life Midland delivered over 500 meals to homebound seniors—helping them enjoy a stress-free holiday season. The effort provided essential support for local seniors during this festive period.  NewsWest9
  • Senior Life Midland held its 36th Texas Size Garage Sale last month in a 25,000 square foot warehouse—raising funds for Meals on Wheels to feed homebound seniors. The event, which offered donated items at 75% off, will open again this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a goal of raising $150,000.  CBS7

CULTURE NEWS

  • A play at Midland Community Theatre — No Room for a Picture on the Blank Wall — is raising awareness for memory loss diseases while running for two weekends and follows a man newly diagnosed with dementia using forget-me-not flowers as symbols. Director Pam Keel said the production honors personal loss and comes as Texans approved more state funding for dementia research.  CBS7

  • The City of Midland will close its offices on November 11th for Veterans Day — trash pickup schedules will be adjusted accordingly.  City of Midland
  • State Rep. Tom Craddick said that Texas voters approved Proposition 14 yesterday, funding the creation of the Dementia Prevention Research Institute to study dementia, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. He added that the new institute—modeled after the Cancer Prevention Research Institute—will support groundbreaking health research in Texas.  CBS7
