COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Midland is holding its first city-wide canned food drive as council members compete to collect donations for the Midland Soup Kitchen Ministry until Friday, October 3. Donations may be dropped off at the soup kitchen between 9:30 and 2 or placed in a bin after hours—each council member collects a specific food type to help feed local families during Hunger Action Month.  CBS7
  • The City of Midland partnered with Midland Soup Kitchen to launch a canned food drive competition called Yes, Midland Can—residents are invited to donate nonperishable food items to support those in need.  City of Midland

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents in Midland can now submit applications for MDC board positions as the City seeks to fill an unexpired term—two upcoming appointments—on the board. The City will review all candidates and share next steps soon.  City of Midland

HEALTH NEWS

  • Midland College cosmetology students are offering pink hair extensions for Breast Cancer Awareness Month to raise funds for Permian Basin Gifts of Hope — the local non-profit that helps families with medical costs — with each extension costing $5 and available on campus from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Oct 30. Program Chair Michael Fields, a cancer survivor, said the fundraiser supports early detection and treatment efforts.  CBS7
